“Attuned choice by attuned choice, your entire life is a form of self-expression. You exist as a creative being in a creative universe. A singular work of art.”

Many people don’t view themselves as creatives.
It’s a common misconception that to be creative means to be a musician, an artist, a performer, or something that can be externally verified by your career or hobbies.
But have you ever considered your existence itself as a work of art?
What if each decision you made in every moment of every day was in itself an artistic gesture, like the stroke of a paintbrush across a canvas, the sonorous strum of an acoustic guitar, or a ballerina’s carefully choreographed dance step?
In The Creative Act, Rick Rubin explores the idea that we are creative beings in a creative universe.
This means that we don’t have to struggle to be creative, it’s something that’s inherently in each one of us.
Creativity is a fibre that is tightly woven into the fabric of humanity.
Attuned choice by attuned choice, your entire life is a form of self-expression.
The decisions you make, whether it’s how you take your coffee in the morning, the company you choose to work for, or how you tie your laces - or whether you wear shoes with laces at all - these are artist’s choices.
To further the metaphor, I like to think about how each day we wake up, it’s like we have a blank new canvas that we get to paint our lives on.
No matter what happened yesterday, you get to start afresh.
Sometimes we think we don’t have much control over our lives, but the reality is that we do.
In each and every moment, we have full creative direction.
Even if we cannot immediately choose where we live, how much money we make, or the people we live with, when you wake up every morning, there are certain choices that you can make, choices that no one else can interfere with.
You get to choose the attitude with which you will approach this new day.
You get to choose whether or not you will regulate your emotions, and how you will do so.
You get to choose how you will interact with others in your environment, regardless of the way they interact with you.
Life becomes more beautiful when you become aware of the multiplicity of choices available to you.
Life becomes more vibrant when you see your power - when you realize that you don’t need clay, paint, paper or stone to create art…
Because the reality is that in this life, you are both the artist and the masterpiece.
